Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Why Fashion District Homeowners Choose DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning

We provide independent DuraFlex chimney cleaning, inspection, and repair in Fashion District, with a focus on the stainless steel liner systems that run through the neighborhood’s converted lofts, older masonry chases, and commercial kitchen stacks. What sets our DuraFlex work apart is straightforward: we diagnose before we sell, we carry the knowledge to repair what can be saved, and we say plainly when a reline is actually necessary. If your DuraFlex liner is pitted, glazed, or water-damaged, we’ll show you camera proof before recommending anything. Call Duane Quintero and the team at (844) 963-3205. We answer 24/7. Fast dispatch from 7am to 7pm, Sunday through Friday.

Fireside Chimney Sweep is an independent DuraFlex service provider. We are not authorized by, affiliated with, or factory-certified by DuraFlex, and we don’t pretend otherwise. What we are is a full-service chimney company that has been repairing and installing DuraFlex flexible stainless liners in the LA basin since 2012, long enough to know how this equipment ages in the real world.

Why Trust Fireside Chimney Sweep for Your DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning?

DuraFlex stainless liners are professional-grade components, but they live in harsh conditions: acidic flue gas, thermal cycling, and the occasional clumsy install from a previous contractor. A sweep-only crew can run a brush through the flue and call it done. We inspect with the eye of someone who can actually fix what we find, because Duane Quintero, our owner and lead technician, spent years doing hands-on chimney and fireplace work across the LA basin before opening Fireside Chimney Sweep in 2012. He learned building systems and ventilation fundamentals through the HVAC and construction technology program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and he grew up in the Historic Core, a short walk from the Fashion District’s fabric warehouses. He knows this neighborhood’s buildings, and he knows what a failed liner looks like from the inside.

Trust with a DuraFlex system means three things. First, we know the failure modes of this brand and format, not just how to brush it. Second, we use quality parts that fit DuraFlex equipment: OEM top plates, caps, appliance connectors, and matching liner sections when the system needs a true continuation, and verified aftermarket flex and insulation only where OEM isn’t practical. Third, we never sell a reline on a guess. If a clean-and-inspect plus a new cap and top plate keeps your liner serviceable, that’s what we recommend. If it’s pitted through or the insulation is shot, we say so plainly and show you the camera images. If the smoke’s not going up, we need to talk.

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Fix in Fashion District

DuraFlex stainless liners are widely used in the converted early-1900s lofts and former garment factories that define Fashion District. The specific failure modes we see here are tied to the building stock and how these spaces are heated, and a generic chimney cleaner often misses them entirely. These are the issues we encounter most often:

  • Corrosion pitting on smooth-wall liners behind gas-conversion fireplaces. Many Fashion District lofts originally had wood-burning fireplaces that later got gas log sets or inserts. The flue gas from gas combustion is cooler and carries acidic condensate, and in a tight masonry chase that acid sits on the stainless and pits the smooth wall, especially near the appliance connector. A brush won’t fix this; it needs camera inspection and often a segment replacement.
  • Insulation blanket slippage and cold spots. DuraFlex insulation wrap kits keep flue gases warm enough to draft properly and resist creosote glazing. When that blanket degrades or slides down the liner, you get cold sections where creosote accumulates fast. We find slipped blankets by feel during the sweep and by camera, then reset or replace the wrap and re-secure it properly.
  • Crushed or compressed flex sections at offsets. Tight offset pulls and over-eager installers can crush the corrugations of a flex liner, restricting the draft and trapping soot behind the kink. A homeowner notices smoke rollback or a fireplace that just won’t draw. In many cases we can cut out the crushed section and splice in a matching length of DuraFlex flex, rather than condemning the whole run.
  • Rusted or seized top plates and cap fasteners. Fashion District’s occasional winter rains find their way past old crowns, and the top plate hardware on a DuraFlex assembly is often the first thing to corrode. A seized fastener or rusted plate lets water run down the liner and into the firebox. We replace top plates and multi-flue cap assemblies as a standalone repair, no reline required when the liner itself is sound.
  • Glazed creosote in restaurant and wood-burning flues. Not all Fashion District work is residential. The neighborhood’s dense restaurant row runs commercial exhaust stacks and wood-fired ovens through the same roof penetrations as older residential flues. Low-temperature, low-oxygen wood burning creates a hard glaze that a standard wire brush bounces off. We use poly rotary whips and chemical treatments to break it down without damaging DuraFlex stainless.

DuraFlex Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

We are not a DuraFlex dealer and we don’t claim to stock OEM or genuine DuraFlex parts on the truck. What we do is match components correctly when a repair is the right call. If your system needs a new top plate, cap, appliance connector, or a spliced liner section, we can source the correct DuraFlex piece and install it to fit the existing run. When the OEM part isn’t available or isn’t practical for the repair, we use verified aftermarket flex and insulation that meets the same dimensional and material requirements.

The repair-versus-replace decision always starts with a Level 2 camera inspection. We look at the liner wall, the seams, the insulation, and the termination hardware. If the stainless is intact and the liner drafts properly, we clean, replace what’s failed, and tell you honestly that the system has years left. If the liner is pitted through or the insulation has failed, we recommend a reline and show you exactly why. We’d rather save a Fashion District homeowner the cost of a reline than pad an invoice. Call (844) 963-3205 to schedule an estimate, which is free.

Our DuraFlex Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Diagnosis. We start with a visual inspection of the firebox, appliance connector, and termination, then run a Level 2 camera through the entire DuraFlex liner if anything looks off. We’re looking specifically for pitting, seam separation, blanket slippage, crushed sections, and top plate corrosion, the issues this kind of system actually develops.
  2. 2
Repair or reline planning. We show you what the camera found and explain the options in plain English. A segment replacement costs far less than a full reline, but we’ll only recommend it when the surrounding liner is sound. If a full DuraFlex reline is the answer, we size the liner correctly for the appliance and the chase.
  3. 3
Repair or installation. We cut out failed sections, splice in matching DuraFlex flex lengths, reset or replace insulation blankets, and install new top plates and caps as needed. Crimped connections are secured properly, never over-tightened, and offsets are pulled with the correct radius for the liner diameter.
  4. 4
Draft and combustion test. After any repair or reline, we run a draft test and, on gas appliances, a combustion check. We don’t leave until the numbers are clean and the smoke goes up, not into the loft.
  5. 5
Warranty-safe documentation. Every service includes a written report with camera images. We document what we found, what we did, and what’s fine to leave alone. That paper trail matters for your own records and for any manufacturer warranty questions down the line.

DuraFlex Products We Service & Install in Fashion District

Our team works on the full range of DuraFlex flexible stainless chimney liner systems, including smooth-wall DuraFlex SW liners, DuraFlex Pro flexible relining kits, insulation blanket wrap kits for zero-clearance and masonry retrofits, and DuraFlex top plate and multi-flue cap assemblies. Whether your Fashion District building has an original masonry chimney that got a stainless reline decades ago or a newer zero-clearance chase with a flex liner, we can inspect it, clean it, repair it, or replace the liner if it has failed. We don’t sell DuraFlex equipment from a catalog; we service what’s already in your building and install new liner systems when a reline is the only safe option.

We Also Service These Brands

Our chimney and venting work isn’t limited to DuraFlex. We also service and install systems using HeatShield resurfacing products for cracked or deteriorating flue tiles, and Gelco chimney caps and termination components. If your building has a mixed system or an older liner from another professional brand, we can assess it on its own terms and recommend the right fix, DuraFlex or otherwise.
